About Auburn University
The mission of the Master of Community Planning program at Auburn University, a Planning Accreditation Board accredited program, is to prepare competent, ethical, and responsible future professional planners for addressing complex planning issues in an interdisciplinary and dynamic environment, with an explicit focus on social justice, equity, and inclusion, and making communities resilient and sustainable. Active, hands-on, and community-engaged learning on real projects, with partners in underserved communities in Alabama and the Southeast region, and facilitated by professionally active faculty, is the foundation of the program.Points of Distinction
The program offers a broad-based planning education through core courses, combined with the opportunity to take electives in the following areas of faculty expertise: sustainable development, land use and law, GIS and mapping, place-making and urban design, transportation, real estate development, revitalization and economic development, affordable housing, historic preservation, and community development and non-profits. The program provides small class sizes with individual attention, and an interdisciplinary, practice-based learning environment. Students also get to participate in the program’s Alabama City Year initiative (https://www.alabamacityyearprogram.com/), which, through coursework, provides real-life, practical, hands-on experience with a community in the Southeast region of the US.Degrees & Programs
