About Hunter College, City University of New York
The Master of Urban Planning balances theory, technical training, planning specializations, and studio experience to equip students for success as professional urban planners. Students become skilled advocates for diverse neighborhoods, cities, and regions through rigorous coursework and hands-on projects. A mix of full-time faculty and part-time planning professionals bring cutting-edge techniques into our classrooms and leverage Hunter's extensive planning networks. Our successful graduates work in the public, private, and non-profit sectors, with a high percentage in full-time planning roles.Points of Distinction
Concentrations in housing, the environment, community planning, transportation planning, and more give students in-demand skills and knowledge valued by employers. Most of our students gain competitive internships and planning positions in the New York region and beyond. In 2024, the Planning Accreditation Board highlighted the program's “many areas of excellence," including "a long history and distinctive focus on advocacy planning; highly qualified faculty actively engaged in the community and helpful to students throughout their careers; and notable efforts in creating a climate of inclusiveness.”Degrees & Programs
