The School of Architecture, Planning and Landscape (SAPL) emphasizes interdisciplinary planning and design, entrepreneurship, and collaboration with industry to prepare students for impactful careers. The Master of Planning program equips future planners with the knowledge and skills to collaborate with other professionals and community members to create sustainable, vibrant, healthy, and equitable cities and communities.

Points of Distinction

Program philosophy: Culture, technology and the environment continually evolve, influencing how people experience cities. Planners can be active changemakers shaping communities and cities in ways that are responsive to current and future challenges and opportunities. The SAPL Master of Planning emphasizes form-based planning and uses design studio pedagogy as the primary context for integrating spatial and physical planning with social, environmental and economic dimensions of planning practice and theory. Students work individually as well in teams – often directly with community associations – to explore planning issues and the role of professional planners.
