About Miami University
Miami is a major public university with a small, liberal-arts-college feel. The Department of Geography integrates social and natural sciences with geospatial analysis to understand our complex world and plan a sustainable future. Our interdisciplinary Urban and Regional Planning BA combines a foundation in human and urban geography, planning principles and practices, and spatial analysis (GIS) and graphical skills with concentrations in social issues, environment/sustainability, administration and development, or geospatial analytics. Students gain first-hand experience through field- and client-based courses serving local communities. Alumni are successful in securing high-quality employment in public planning, consulting, and real estate/development.Points of Distinction
Planning at Miami combines the bread strengths of a liberal-arts education with specialized planning and geospatial techniques. While other programs emphasize design, our strengths are in the social sciences, environment, GIS, and policy (including land-use law). As a moderately-sized geography department we are not ASCP accredited, however, student outcomes are exceptional. Our well-trained undergraduates compete successfully (including with Master's students) for high-quality employment, where they often advance quickly to leadership positions.Degrees & Programs
